London - SouthEnd Bike Ride - Report

Awesome day - An awesome ride. My first long distance outer city ride, and it was a good one.

Cycled to Victoria park which was around 8 miles and a bit from my place over at Marlybone high street. The ride to the park was a great ride through the city of London. Great time to be out in the city, especially being a Sunday and before 7:00 AM..!

Started the ride at 8:00 am from Victoria park, and within half an hour, was in the out skirts of London. For the next 3 hours there was not even a single traffic light that i had to stop for, and it was brilliant. There were more than 5000 riders, as i remember seeing a badge number with 5027.

Stopped on the way at Mountenssing (See map below), which was my first break, around 28 miles into the ride. Stopped over here for a toilet, drinks and snack bar break. My next quick stop was at The Barge Inn, before stopping for a good 10 minutes over at The Royal Oak. I was completely exhausted over at the Royal Oak, but took comfort in the fact that i HAD nearly made it to the Finish Line.

Reached Southend-on-Sea, The Priory park at 10 past 12:00 PM, with 3 stops in between - 2*10 minutes stops and and a 7 minute stop.

I felt the ride a little tougher than i had expected. Perhaps could be because of the single speed drawback, but challenging nevertheless.

More reviews to follow soon, and in the mean time stay tuned for my preview for next weeks ride as well - London to Cambridge.

Picture indicates my certificate, medal, the route map as well as the Speedometer showing 70.13 miles, Phew..!

And lets not forget, the ride was for the British Heart Foundation for which i managed a total collection of £200.00. Thanks to all the contributors for supporting me on this ride, and in the process help the BHF.

Route map as given below. In case if anyone is interested in doing the ride again, perhaps this could help. Please comment and follow me if this has helped you, Thanks.
